USES

Benazepril is used to treat high blood pressure in adults and children six years of age and older, either by itself or in combination with other drugs.

Blood pressure reduction may lessen your chance of having a heart attack or stroke.

SIDE EFFECTS

If you have any of the following symptoms of an allergic reaction: hives, intense stomach pain, trouble breathing, swelling in your lips, tongue, or neck, get emergency medical attention.

Serious adverse effects are possible with benazepril. Make a quick call to your doctor if you have:

a sense of lightheadedness, as if you could faint;

renal problems—edema, decreased urination, fatigue, or dyspnea;

symptoms of high blood potassium, such as tingling, weakness, nausea, chest pain, irregular heartbeats, and lack of movement; or

liver problems: loss of appetite, upper right stomach pain, fatigue, itching, dark urine, feces with a clay hue, and jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes).

Benazepril side effects that are common include:

headache

WARNINGS

If you are pregnant, avoid using. If you become pregnant, stop taking benazepril and notify your doctor straight once.

Inform your physician about all other medications you take. Benazepril should not be taken with certain medications.

Prior to using this medication
If you have an allergy to benazepril or any other ACE (angiotensin converting enzyme) inhibitor, such as captopril, fosinopril, enalapril, lisinopril, moexipril, quinapril, ramipril, or trandolapril, you should not use benazepril.

Benazepril should not be taken within 36 hours of using sacubitril-containing medication (such as Entresto).

Benazepril should not be taken with any drug that contains aliskiren if you have diabetes. Aliskiren is a blood pressure medication.

If you have previously experienced angioedema, a severe allergic reaction, do not use benazepril.
